Our Teddy Bear's Journey

Theodore was born with renal failure. This is his story.

This week’s installment of Will He Or Won’t He Start Dialysis….

on April 19, 2012

His labs looked good yesterday during our clinic visit, and BUN had dropped to 37. We decided to add more fluid – an extra 5 ml/hour over night – and SOME of the beneprotein – and see how things look next week. Yay!

  1. I came across this article by Dr. Bob Sears (aluminum and IV fluids) and thought of Teddy knowing that he is a kidney patient. My son was on a lot of IV fluids so this concerns me enough to ask about it at our next oncology appt. (I know it says “vaccine” in the links but the info is on IV fluids)

I will ask about this the next time he gets IV fluids. I know he doesn’t get the same stuff everyone else gets because of the kidney function, but I’ve not stopped to ask what’s in it – I guess I didn’t realize that aluminum was even a possibility. Thanks!

This was so interesting, thank you. I am going to ask nephrology about the aluminum.
